2014

In early 2014 I made a very large basket called Blue Mitchell which was shown at Mobilia Gallery. The piece was inspired by a science article in the NYT highlighting an artist who painted insects with bodies that resembled modern art sculpture. 90 smaller basketry bugs that accompanied the piece are made with plastic bottles, tacks, beads, buttons, pipe cleaners, and pink paper clips. The small bugs are arranged on, around and can hang above the sculpture as if about to fly to or from the basket’s opening.

Mapuche can be found in the National Museums Scotland’s permanent collection, learn more about the piece here: www.nms.ac.uk/explore-our-collections/stories/world-cultures/mapuche/
